{ Lovely Lady No. 9 }

By :: Shannon LeDuke

The list of baking blogs I like and follow could go on for years and years. Recently while looking around the good ole’ world wide web for a tasty cupcake recipe I found another site to add to my list! With a personal style that is all things chic, creative, and yummy I’d like to introduce MotherLovely’s ninth Lovely Lady, Kyle, and her baking blog, The Girl Kyle. With the kindness and fun loving spirit of someone you’ve known your entire life Kyle indulges on her relationship, passion for graphic design and baking, and her best “be happy” advice.

Q : Hi Kyle, I’m familiar with The Girl Kyle, but for our readers who don’t know you, what is your full name, age, current town, and home town.

A :  My name is Kyle Jean Lane, recently 29, born and raised in Sacramento, CA.  Currently residing in the posh neighborhood of East Sacramento.

Q : What did you want to be when you were a little girl? Artist? Writer? Model? Ballerina?

A : I remember at a very young age that I wanted to be a vet.  Not very imaginative I know, and also completely not for me!  I can’t even watch the medical scenes on House!  As I grew older I decided that I wanted to be my own boss, like my mom.  The boss of what exactly?  I still haven’t figured that out!  Ha!

Q : Who do you think encouraged your creative career the most when you were growing up?

A : I’d definitely say my parents were a large influence.  My mother is a caterer so her creative medium is food and my father’s long-time hobby is photography.  We’re a creative group it seems.  I also think my peers’ compliments in school made an impact too.  I always loved art in class in grade school and I was often asked by my classmates to help them or to draw something for them.  It definitely made me feel good.

Q : When you aren’t blogging, what is your favorite thing to do?

A : I really love tooling around in illustrator. It’s pretty accurate to say that a day doesn’t go by where I don’t turn on my MacBook to play around with some project. I took the plunge about 6 months ago to try and officially sell my designs to people other than my friends and family.  Check me out on Etsy! ;)

Q : Can you give our readers any secret hot spots to check out in your home town or current town?

A: When people think California they probably think LA and San Francisco.  Or they think earthquakes and beaches.  Well, I’ve never experienced the former and I don’t live next to the beach, but Sacramento is still awesome!  If you’re ever in the area you should check out this new(ish) bar called Dive Bar.  The “dive” references a giant aquarium over the bar where MERMAIDS swim!  Yes, actual mermaids.  It’s definitely a sight to see!

Q : MotherLovely is all about helping women be happy. What’s one piece of advice you think of when things aren’t going your way?

A : I try to always remind myself that things will work themselves out.  Maybe not the way I wanted originally, but once the dust settles and time moves on – it will be all right.  Simple, but it’s true. And if that doesn’t work, what makes me happy is a glass of chardonnay with friends or a trip to a favorite store.  Retail therapy WORKS!

Q : What are five things  you can’t live without? (beauty products, movies, food.)

A : In no particular order: 1) My MacBook 2) Chapstick, – Nivea’s Essential Lip Care is amazing.  My boyfriend says it looks like a glue stick, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it! 3) Pasta.  Any way, shape or form. 4) Music. 90% of the time it puts me in a better mood.  I listen in the car, getting ready in the morning, baking etc. 5) Hoodies, even sometimes in the summer.  I’d wear one every day if I could.

Q : Where do hope to see yourself at the end of 2012?

A : I think 2012 is going to be amazing!  I see my relationship going to the “next level”.  Living together?  Engaged?  Who knows… We’ll see, but he’s the one I want for the rest of my life.  Mushiness aside I’d also really like to go further with my graphic design work.  If I could turn my passion into a full time paycheck that would be truly amazing!

Q : MotherLovely has a column all about food, Confections & Cocktails, what is one food recipe, question, or trick you have that you’d like to share with our readers who read C&C.

A : Since I’m what some would call a baker I think it’s only fitting to share something sweet with all of you.  This chocolate cake recipe is by FAR the best I’ve ever had.  It’s always a crowd pleaser and I always get asked for the recipe.  Sadly, I lost the original source but I remember what drew me to it was that the woman had driven out of town for a baking contest and WON!  Once you try it you’ll see why.

Q : MotherLovely has a column all about style called Haute Frills. What is your personal and home style like?

A : I’d say my personal style is very classic, kind of 50’s throwback.  My friends can easily point out “a kyle dress” or top or whatever the clothing item may be.  I think those clothes were from a time when women were more full-figured less heroin chic and so they’re very flattering to my body.

Right now, my home style is very feminine with a slight hint of shabby chic.  Just recently I’ve become inspired by all things Anthropologie.  Its kind of why I decided to hang this garland over my tv that I made a couple years ago for my birthday soiree.  I made it with cupcake liners, fabric, string and ribbon.  I love that it’s playful and unexpected!

Q : MotherLovely has a column dedicated to advice. What is one question you might like answered by B from Plain&Simple?

A : I’d like to say first off that Plain&Simple is one of my favorite features on your blog.  She gets a variety of questions, but always knows how to tackle it!  Since Valentine’s Day is coming up I’d really love if she could make some suggestions for the men in our lives.  It’s tough because the holiday is geared towards us women, but he deserves to be spoiled too!
